ULPower UL260iSA: 107HP Aero Engine

UL260iSA: Presentation

The ULPower team has designed its own light weight inverted oil system, allowing the ULPower engines to fly inverted.

The fuel injection system (instead of carburettor) avoids the engine to stop or to loose fuel when flying inverted. When considering the fuel system, the engine can fly inverted for hours and hours. Because of the electronic RPM limiter, there’s no danger of over-running.

By developing the inverted oil system, ULPower copes with potential greasing issues. The principle of the system is as follows:

  1. The oil pick-up tube in the oil sump is mounted with a hinge joint. While climbing or diving up to an angle of 45°, the oil pump can pick up the oil from the sump without any problem.
  2. oil inverted valve When climbing or diving under an angle of over 45°, the oil inverted valve changes the pick-up direction and from now on the oil is coming from the top of the engine casing (which is now the lowest point).
  3. oil inverted valve The large (but light) “oil air breather” prevents the oil from leaving the engine.

Pete Wells of Zulu Glasstek (UK) is the owner of 3 UL260iSa engines. He’s accumulated a lot of experience with the engine and has proven the efficiency of the system.
